View Full Version : Home Park Phase 2 Reshaped. 28,000 capacity new aim

, 07:15 PM
Meanwhile, Stapleton has confirmed that the club's original capacity of 20,000 for Phase Two is under review following the increased demand for tickets following his side's second championship-winning campaign in three years.

Argyle's current capacity is 19,888 and the club had originally planned to remain at that figure when the rebuilding of Home Park had been completed.

But Stapleton said: "That figure is under review.

"We're looking into it all, right now, as we want to get it right.

"We had thought of 20,000 being the right number, but after this season we're having a rethink.

"It could be when the work on Phase Two goes ahead that we'll move into the region of 25,000 to 28,000. But, nothing's concrete yet, but we're giving it a lot of thought."

that would be very dangerous for a club Plymouths size... im not trying to be cocky or anything but it would be much better to stay i nthe first division for a season or two first. Its just that 28 000 will be a lot to fill.

i tell you... i'll ask Dave Whelan to give you one of our stands, i'm sure our attendance won't shoot up for a while.

Plymouth could get big crowds as they have a massive area with no many sides around them.

We arnt doing this right now, phase 2 wont happen until the end of the season at the earliest. Anyway im pretty sure Plymouth is a bigger City than Norwich

... and this is what the stadium will look like when finished. Maybe a bit bigger as that was the original design.

Looks very smart, not dissimilar to our very own Madstad.

It would be a shame to lose the terraces though.

17000 is above average for division one.

Not every team has huge support.

well that was when our stadium held ony 21 000 and also we were mid table-bottom end teqam, so is pretty good if you ask me. Yeah whufc4 life u wud say that, but teams in london get much better suport than in Norfolk, think how long it takes to get there in London, and then in Norfolk... also think how far it is.

Just shows how dim witted you are then if you didnt know Plymoouth was City. I'd disagree I think Plymouth is more well known than Norwich.

laker

I would definitley disagree with this - how many people were at your promotion/championship winning street party? I know it was at least 50,000 in Norwich but it could well have been more.

Norwich is also the biggest city in East Anglia - nearest place to Norwich that is bigger is London.

You said we're not talking football then say what players have you had?

If we're not talking football then take a look at this for Plymouths history. Just to mention one person Sir Francis Drake.

RoyalAli

Reading is actually smaller than the table states, that includes Basingstoke as well.

yeal i know ali... lol but still the fact is Norwich is a bigger club than Plymouth, have a bigger fan base but Ben can't seem to realise that.....

laker
, 06:54 PM
The simple fact is that Norwich is a bigger side, having been in higher leagues for years on end. Its like comparing Crystal Palace and AFC Wimbledon - the wombles may have potentially a good side and strong fan base but there is no successful history. However, this doesn't mean Plymouth aren't going places - if they think they can fill 28,000 the good luck to them - no disrespect but I think they'll need it!

Also stephen fry :p

we have had some very good and famous players i nthe past.

Martin Peters for example, Bellamy, Sutton, Gunn, Steve Bruce, Joe Royle, John and Justin Fashanu, Ruel Fox, Kevin Keelan, Martin O'Neil, Robert Green... no we don't have any famous players...

Doubt everyone in football has heard of him. Outside of England no-one would have heard of him. He hasnt earnt the status of being famous until he proves himself in the premiership and then at international level. I think you have devalued the word famous, Green is known in the football world but not famous.

We dont have many star players at all but our team spirit is the greatest I've even seen it and this season we have never given up once in a match, the players have give their all and thats what has got us where we are and done as well as we have yesyes

id say the only star players in our team are Ellington Roberts Filan and De Vos. Maybe Teale.

look at West Ham, nearly all their players are star players and are capable of finishing champions but look at them.

exactly, in our current team, we have no famous players, except green i nthe footballing world. However our team spirit is amazing! thats the reason for winning the league. On paper West Hams and West Broms teams were better than ours, however we had the required team spirit. Its amazing how much effect mental feelings can have on matches.

btw i was jokin before

all i will say is, when you say to a person fro mabroad do you know where norwich is and where plymouth is, many more are likely to say norwich yes, plymouth no.

also, looking at a map of your city centre, it seems you have few shops and a sh*t city centre...

our city centre has, the forum, city hall, the castle, castle mall, also building another shopping mall, many more shops than yours, cathedral.

the largestair, permanent market in europe, and countless churches... and yours is bigger... :lol1:

Is Plymouth really a good holiday place? I know people go to Cornwall for holidays but then people go to Norfolk too - Cromer, Sherringham, Great Yarmouth etc. Don't people go to other parts of the west country rather than Plymouth?

We may be missing out! But then most people I meet go to Norwich - see the point I'm getting at? Norwich is the best place for shopping/things to do within an hour of Cambridge, where I live.

If people go on holiday for a week in Norfolk, they will usually have a day or two in Norwich.

I dunno - possibly but then I don't really know what its like there in the summer. But then foreigners would rather go to London I think anyway which defeats both our claims.

All i know is that there are alot of holiday makers in Norfolk over the summer - I should know as the b*stard A11 is always busy June-September.
